A listed water pumping station that kept the city dry for over eighty years — and is now one of Amsterdam's most extraordinary dining rooms.
This robust, industrial building was constructed in 1912, in the characteristic style of the Amsterdam School. Unassuming from the outside — inside breathtakingly high.

There used to be four gigantic water pumps here, which pumped water into the city via enormous pipes leading to the cellar and the water tower. A technical journal from 1941 described the engine room as "a jewel for the city of Amsterdam".
In the 1980s, the pumps were moved to the cellar, directly beneath the floor. They are still running there. On rainy days in particular, they pump water out of the city — sometimes noticeable as a gentle vibration that resonates throughout the building.
Constructed in the distinctive Amsterdam School style. The engine room — now the restaurant — once housed four gigantic steam pumps that pumped water out of the city.
The steam engines made way for electric pumps. In the event of serious breakdowns, diesel engines generated the necessary power.
The pumps moved to the cellar, directly beneath the floor. They are still running — on rainy days, you can feel a gentle vibration throughout the building.
Waternet commissioned a new pumping station, 150 metres away. The listed building awaits a second life.
Today, guests dine, enjoy drinks and dance beneath a twelve-metre-high ceiling, with live jazz and the architecture taking centre stage.
Pompstation has long been renowned for its meat — the carpaccio and tournedos made from North Holland Holstein beef have been praised on numerous occasions in Het Parool. That tradition continues, with dry-aged steaks from our own ageing cabinet.
Alongside that, there is an increasing focus on fish and vegetarian dishes: refined dishes made from local, organic, seasonal produce. A kitchen that moves with what the region has to offer.

“A brilliant spot for foodies. Various set menus with delicious meat, fish and vegetarian options.
“Fantastic food and exceptional service — one of my favourite spots in Amsterdam. The live jam sessions are the icing on the cake.
“I've never eaten such a delicious steak. It melted in the mouth. Friendly staff and good service.
